At the end of the general audience meet which was held on 2nd August, 2017, at Pope Paul VI Hall of the Vatican, an acclaimed Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and a choir of 60 children from the poorest areas of Haiti offered a special performance as a surprise to the Holy Father Pope Francis. The choir called “Voices of Haiti” sang three songs with Bocelli. The children of the choir come from the Cite Soleil slums where over 300,000 people live in the tin shack houses, without access to water and sanitation.
As reported by Catholic News Agency, the website of “Voices of Haiti” remarked that “Because all the students come from poor economic and social backgrounds, through music they have been able to find a way to consolidate discipline, cooperation, and have moved away from the misery brought on by the grip of poverty.”
After the melodious performance His Holiness Pope Francis greeted and appreciated the world-renowned singer and the children.
