Kakkanad: The 21st Synod of the Syro-Malabar Bishops will be held from 10 to 15 January 2020 at Mount St. Thomas, Kakkanad. The Permanent Synod met this evening to discuss the preparations for the Synod and to determine the agenda of the Synod and conclude the alternative canonical proceedings. Of the 64 bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church, 58 are attending the Synod. Other bishops could not attend the Synod because of ill health and old age.
In preparation for the Synod, the bishops will meditate on January 7-9. Redemptorist clergyman Fr. Meditation is led by Ival Mendoza. Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, will officially inaugurate the Synod on January 10 at 9 am. The affairs of the Synod then proceed according to the ordinance of the Synod.
