Justice Joseph Kurian, judge of Supreme Court of India, while addressing the galaxy of intellectuals gathered at Mount Kakkanad, to celebrate the Silver- Jubilee of Major Archiepiscopal status of the Syro Malabar Church, conveyed his close association with the Syro- Malabar Church and highlighted the significant lessons that he learned from the Church. The Honorable Judge reflected on his experiences with the Church that plays an important role in his life and also the various contributions done by the Syro-Malabar Church to the Universal Church was well-explained by him.
Justice Joseph Kurian remarked that “It is a very proud moment in my life. Twenty-five years ago, when the Major Archiepiscopal status was announced in the Archbishops House, Ernakulam, I was fortunate enough to be present there. I was also a part of the association when the Syro-Malabar Bishops Conference was first organized.” Further, he added, “ I want to recollect the long association and what I gained from this Church. I reflect to publicly account it that this Church has taught me to speak the truth, stand for justice. I want to account the various avenues that this Church has given me in my whole life, on various occasions. What have we gained in these 25 years and where do we lack, is the message of this celebration. This Church had various contributions to give to the Universal Church. India is a country with vast diversity with more than 1000 languages, various cultures, traditions and so everything differs. In union with the Universal Catholic Church, the Syro Malabar Church professing its faith, practicing its traditions and propagating its practice and this is what the Constitution of India has guaranteed to all the citizens of the country. Every citizen in the country can profess their religion, practice their religion and propagate the religion.”
Honorable Justice Joseph Kurian concluded his remarks by saluting the great memories and great contributions of everyone for their efforts to build up the Syro-Malabar Church in a fruitful way.
