Vatican City: Pope Vibhoti’s message is that Lent is the time to turn off the television and cut off the cellphone connection and connect with the Gospel. The pope made this reminder when thousands of people, including pilgrims from different countries, came to attend the weekly public meeting in the Vatican yesterday (27/02/2020). The pope began his message with the words that the 40-day Lenten journey to the heart of worship and faith is beginning today. In his message, the pope mentioned a number of things to avoid during Lent.
Lent is a special time to make room for God’s Word. Time to turn off the television and open the Bible, time to disconnect from the cellphone and connect with the gospel. When I was a child, there was no television. In those days there was a habit of not listening to the radio during Lent. Lent is a desert. Lent is a time to throw away vain words, vain talk, rumors and slander and to draw close to the Lord. Lent is the time for cleansing the heart, making the heart-healthy, and talking to the Lord intimately. The pope reminded us that we are living in an environment that is contaminated with many harmful words and that prayers are necessary for these conditions to change.
