Thiruvananthapuram: The Christian church has reduced the cemetery bill for Jacobite and Orthodox churches with regard to the use of cemeteries for the burial of believers. The action was taken in view of the opposition of other Christian churches. The opposition also opposed the bill being applied to all churches. The legislature approved the recommendation of the Subject Committee on this.

The Bill was prompted by a dispute between Orthodox and Jacobite groups over the burial of believers. The Governor had earlier issued an ordinance in this regard. The Syro-Malabar Church, which welcomed the government’s efforts to resolve issues related to the cemetery in the Jacobite and Orthodox churches, expressed concern at the same time. Cardinal George Alencherry stated that the Bill that was enacted was inaccurate, inaccurate, and would jeopardize the Constitution’s right to religion.
