Sydney: Thousands of people participated in the Annual Walk with Christ, Eucharistic Rally held in Sydney, Australia yesterday, proclaiming their faith in the blessed sacrament on the eve of the feast of Christ the King. Nearly five thousand believers participated in this year’s Walk with Christ Rally. The rally took place at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Patrick’s Church at 2.30 pm. Bishop Anthony Fisher led the Eucharistic procession.
As the rally entered Hunter Street through Pitt Street, believers were all chanting hymns and singing hymns of praise. Hundreds of people gathered on both sides of the road to watch the rally. In his speech outside the Cathedral, Bishop Fischer said the Holy Eucharist is the foundation of the Christian faith. He added that the rally was aimed at bringing together Sydney’s children, young people and families.
The Archbishop explained that the Holy Eucharist is not a doctrine, word, symbol, ritual, or person, but that the universal King, Jesus Christ, is truly the flesh and the blood. Participants at the rally responded that this year’s rally was an opportunity for the children to witness the faith and that the rally was a blessing for Australia and Sydney.
The Eucharistic Day, which was shut down in Sydney, was restarted in the first quarter of 2000. Since then, the Walk with Christ Rally has become an important source of solidarity for the Sydney Catholic community. The rally is usually held on the feast day of Corpus Christi, which fell on June 20th this year. But the rally was postponed to the feast day of Christ The King, as Australian bishops were in Rome as part of their Ad Limina Meet with the Pope.
