St Patrick’s Church in Soho, London is distributing food to the poor. The parish church also provides an opportunity for Eucharistic worship. St. Patrick’s Church is located in an area that has gained notoriety. Due to fears of coronavirus, many of the city’s operations were suspended by mid-March.

But Fr. Alexander approached Fr. Sherbrooke. Since taking charge of the parish in 2001, he has been running charities.

The parish church prepares meals twice a day. Food is served from nearby Five Star hotels. Many volunteers come to help, said Fr. Sherbrooke. When it comes to delivering food, the volunteers will be praying before the Eucharist in keeping with the government’s prescribed social distance.

Fr. Sherbrooke said that the church, which served within four walls, is now serving the street. St. Damien and St. Mother Teresa are his role models, Fr. Sherbrooke added. He recalled that there was a great evangelization going on among the poor because they could meet the people directly and preach the Word of God. The parish, which came into existence in 1792, was a refuge for the poor many centuries ago.
