Athens: Greece’s new president-elect, Ekaterini Zakellaro Paulo, is reported to have sworn in the Bible and sworn in the name of the Holy Trinity. The Athens-Macedonian news agency reported that sources close to Zakeloropoulos have announced this. According to the report, a close aide of Sakellaropollo has said that he does not consider a religious oath. Elected representatives of Greece have traditionally come to power by swearing in the name of God in the Bible in the presence of the Archbishop of Athens.
In 2015, in contrast, former prime minister and atheist Alexis Tsipras refused to take the oath of office when he took office. “In the name of the Holy Trinity, the only and Divine Trinity, I will defend the Constitution and the laws, ensure their faithful observance, protect the nation’s independence, its geographical integrity, the rights and freedoms of the Greek people.
In 2018, some ministers have taken the oath of office in the absence of Greek Orthodox Church representatives. It was the first time such an oath took place in 1941. The swearing-in of Ecaterini Sakellaropollo, a senior judge and expert on environmental constitutional laws, will take place on March 31. Sakellaroopoulos is the first woman in Greece’s history to be elected president. The Greek people are glad to hear that they have been sworn in the name of God according to their new presidential tradition.
