Ernakulam: The Kerala Latin Catholic Association on Friday submitted a petition to the Prime Minister demanding the resumption of Anglo-Indian reservations in the churches. The Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Anglo Indian Communities were reserved in the Legislative Assemblies under Articles 330, 331,332,333 in order to ensure the participation of all sections of the people in power at the time the Constitution of the country was constituted. Article 334 was reserved for a fixed period of time and subsequently extended by amendments to the Constitution.

But the fact that the situation has improved for the Anglo-Indian community is not without the facts. Therefore, the State Committee of the Kerala Latin Catholic Association has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that the Union Cabinet be prepared to review the decision. The Ministry of Minority Affairs has also been asked to intervene in the matter.

In a report released by the Ministry of Minority Affairs in 2013, the Anglo-Indian community was lagging behind in many areas including education, employment, infrastructure and its existence. However, the KLCA has also demanded that the central cabinet find that their situation has improved on the basis of figures. The letter was sent by KLCA state president Anthony Norona and general secretary Sherry J. Thomas.
