Libya unveils memorial to martyrs killed in Libya The memorial was built in Al Aur village in the province of Minya, the home of the 21 martyrs killed by Islamic State militants. Hundreds of people, including family members of the martyrs, attended the unveiling on February 15th. The monumental statue features 21 people kneeling in front of the large Christ figure.
The Christian massacre took place in 2015 near a seaside hotel in the coastal city of Libya. Before they were executed, the militants released footage showing their hands tied behind their backs. In October 2018, the bodies of martyrs were found in the vicinity of Sirte on the Mediterranean coast. These were the martyrs of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tavadros II of the Coptic Church who sacrificed their lives for Jesus.
