Pope Francis says the Manger is a simple and awe-inspiring sign of the Christian faith. The Pope shared his Christmas prayer in the midst of a liturgical prayer at the Vatican on the first Sunday of the month of December. The Pope said that the arrival of Jesus is the time to welcome the coming of the Messiah, who will show us the ways of God.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus commands us to be ready for His coming: “Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming” (Matthew 24:42). Staying awake here does not mean to be physically open, but to have a heart that is free and upright, willing to give and serve. The pope reminded him that the waiting for the coming Jesus must reach the vigorous endeavor of the vigilante.
In his message, the Pope expressed his grief over the plight of the Iraqi people. There has been a bitter reaction to the recent protests. I understand painfully that many have been victims of these reactions. I pray for those who died and were injured during the performance. The pope said he would support the Iraqi community by praying to God for peace and unity.
