Chennai: Retired bishop Sebastian Yapa Singarayan, who retired from the presidency of the Diocese of Salem, will now serve as co-vicar. The 68-year-old Bishop Sebastian Kappan has decided to resign as Singarayan following his resignation on Monday, March 9, after 19 years of pastoral service. He now serves at the Annai Velankanni Church in Karpur, on the outskirts of Salem.
On March 11, he moved from the diocese. It is also interesting to note that Bishop came to the Substation Church by riding his own motorbike after the farewell ceremony at Bishop House. Known as the Bishop of the common man, he lived a simple life. When I was a bishop, I used to go to nearby communities on bicycles and bikes. He holds a doctorate in theology, three postgraduate degrees and five master’s diplomas in various subjects. He also served as chairman of the evangelistic committee of the National Latin Bishops Committee.
