Vatican City: The Vatican Congregation for Eastern Congregations has announced that it will send medical supplies, including ventilators, to Syria and the Holy Land amid rising numbers of coronavirus cases in West Asia. Ten ventilators are planned to be delivered to Syria and three to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Jerusalem. In a press release issued Saturday, the group said it would provide testing kits to Gaza and financial support to Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem.
Donations will be made in the name of Pope Francis. The Vatican Congregation for Oriental Churches recently formed the Fondo Emergency CEC, an emergency fund for Pope Francis’ call to assist the coroners. The money will be used to fund medical equipment to the Middle East. The announcement was made on the occasion of the feast of the Lord’s mercy and because a group of Christians in the East are preparing to celebrate Easter.
In a press release, Thirusangam said that they would work in cooperation with other organizations to provide assistance. The Vatican representatives in various countries have been quick to provide ventilators and testing kits, according to reports. The group explained that despite financial concerns, the money will be provided to schools and universities every year, as well as assistance to the homeless in Syria, Jordan, and Libya. The Press Release for the Eastern Churches ends with prayer.
