Vatican City: Pope Francis has decided to postpone the World Family Summit in Rome next June and the World Youth Conference in Lisbon, Portugal in 2022. The World Family Meeting has been postponed to June 2022 and World Youth Day to August 2023. In a statement released on Monday, Vatican Press Office Director Matteo Bruni said the decision was made jointly by Pope Francis and the Late Family and Life Disaster.
The press office cited the Pope’s decision to postpone both of these participating global groups because of the current health conditions and their consequences on families and youth. Founded by Saint John Paul II in 1985, the World Youth Congress is held every three years. It is estimated that about seven lakh youth and youth participated in the World Youth Conference held in Panama last year. The theme of the World Youth Forum in 2023 is, “Mary rose and hurried.”
The World Family Reunion was started in 1994 by St. John Paul II. The last World Family Reunion 2018 was held in Dublin, Ireland. The main theme of the 2022 World Family Meeting will be “Family Love: The Path to Holiness and God’s Call”. Pope Francis’ decision to postpone World Youth Day was welcomed by the Bishop of Portugal.
