NEW DELHI: A private bill in the Rajya Sabha to regulate population control in the country has been launched amid debate over the MTP amendment, which would make abortion more likely. Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai has called for a private bill to amend the constitution. The bill seeks to provide free concessions to families in support of population control (with a maximum of two children) in the areas of tax, employment, and education. The bill also calls for the repeal of all concessions granted to those who do not follow the idea of a small family.

The private bill points out that this is only an effective idea to control the population. The Constitution requires the amendment to be included in the State’s Directive Principles of State Policies. The bill has raised concerns that the country’s population crossed 125 crores is a matter of concern and the central and state governments must devise plans to deal with the crisis.

The bill also calls for tax relief on social security programs for small families to encourage population control. The government wants to impose higher taxes on those who do not support the government’s population control plans.

Syro Malabar Sabha Pro-life Apostolic Secretary Sabu Jose responded that the private bill introduced in the Rajya Sabha has raised the mystery of the demand for the denial of legal benefits to families with more than two children. Parents should be able to adopt their children according to their wishes and circumstances. Raising children during this period is a time of great hardship and sacrifice. When couples are proposed to limit the number of children, there may be the possibility of illegally arranging multiple marriages and increasing intermarriage. He said such proposals are a violation of the rights of families.
