Holy Father Pope Francis will be beatifying two martyred Clerics from Colombia in his visit to South America in September.  Bishop Jesus Emilio Jaramillo Monsalve of Arauca and Father Pedro Ramirez Ramoz will be beatified on September 8, 2017.  His Excellency Bishop Jaramillo’s evangelization and his contribution in maintaining peace in the drug trafficking nation was noticed significantly.  Jaramillo was found dead after taken hostage in 1989 by armed bandits and he was shot with four bullets in the head.  Father Pedro was killed at the start of the Colombian civil war in 1948. He is known as the “Martyr of Armero” in Colombia.

As reported by the Vatican News, Greg Burke, the director of the Holy See Press Office confirmed that “ Bishop Jesus Emilio and Father Pedro Ramoz will be beatified on 8th September during an open-air Mass in the city of Villavicencio presided over by the Pope.”

Pope Francis is expected to visit the cities of Bogota, Villavicencio, Medellin and Cartagena from  6-11th September.
