Mosul: UNESCO, the United Nations heritage agency, is working to restore the cathedral shrine of Al-Tahirah Immaculate Conception in Iraq, which was destroyed by Islamic State militants. The rebuilding of the shrine will begin immediately in cooperation with the UAE. UNESCO said the rebuilding process would begin soon and aim to revive the spirit of Mosul.

The shrine, built-in 1862, was attacked by Islamic militants in June 2014. UNESCO plans to create employment opportunities for young craftsmen in the region, to train local residents, and to provide them with more knowledge on the field of work, through the immediate restructuring program.

The Al-Sa’a Temple, built-in 1873 and destroyed by a terrorist attack on the Peen, has been rebuilt in addition to the Al-Tahirah Temple.
