Washington, DC: Ambassador Sam Brownback of the United States International Religious Freedom Commission has expressed serious concern over the growing atrocities perpetrated against Christians, including Christians, on a global scale. In an interview with the Catholic News Agency on February 27, he expressed concern about the attacks on Christians in Nigeria and the restrictions on religious minorities in China. He also expressed concern over whether the attacks in Nigeria would spread to neighboring countries. In a recent panel discussion, Brownback said that living as a Christian is the most dangerous time in Christian history.
Expressing his disappointment that the Nigerian government has done nothing to protect the believers, the Ambassador said that it was necessary to put more pressure on the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to prevent attacks on Christians. The State does nothing to bring the perpetrators of religious beliefs to justice. They seem to be unaware of the need to do something urgently.
While some of these meetings are hopeful, things will only get worse if the government does not take stringent action, he said, adding that religious leaders need to get more involved. At the Conservative Political Action Conference held in National Harbor, Maryland on the same day, “If there is no freedom of religion, then what’s left?” In a panel discussion on the subject, Brownback made a statement about religious persecution. Brownback stressed that China is at war with faith and that China is at the forefront of observing and oppressing religious minorities.
