Munich: Foreign Ministers of the Vatican and China have met. The meeting took place during the Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany. This is the first high-level Vatican-China meeting. The Vatican reports that a friendly meeting was held between Vatican Foreign Minister Archbishop Gallagher and Chinese Minister Wang Yi. At the meeting, the agreement on China’s activities in the Catholic Church became effective in September 2018. There was a historic agreement between the Vatican and the Chinese government regarding the appointment of the bishop.
But it is widely reported that this did not do much good for Chinese Christians. There have been reports that Christian persecution is on the rise. The meeting in this situation is of particular importance. Diplomatic relations between China and the Vatican ceased in 1951. In China, where 3 billion Christians live, 1.2 million are Catholics. Various studies suggest that by 2030, it will become the largest Christian majority country in the world.
