The Vatican is all set to host a two-day high-level international symposium on a nuclear-weapons-free world on November 10-11. Eleven Nobel prize laureates, top UN and NATO officials, leading experts, heads of major foundations and civil society organizations, as well as representatives of bishops conferences, Christian denominations and other faithful are expected to attend the conference on, “Prospects for a World Free from Nuclear Weapons and for Integral Development.”
As reported by Vatican Radio, in announcing the conference on October 30, 2017, Greg Burke, director of the Holy See Press Office remarked that “The Holy Father is working with determination to promote the conditions necessary for a world without nuclear arms.”
The symposium is considered as a fruit of the efforts of Holy Father Pope Francis against arms, particularly nuclear weapons. The Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development is organizing the conference, which will include a meeting with His Holiness Pope Francis.
