Tokyo: Archbishop Mar Joseph Chennoth, the Vatican nuncio in Japan and a Malayalee have been hospitalized following a brain stroke. While preparing for the Holy Mass yesterday morning, he suffered a concussion. He is now in the ICU. It was Mar Chennoth who was responsible for Pope Francis’ visit to Japan. The Pope had a meeting with the Japanese bishops in Nunsatcher.
Mar Chennoth, a parishioner of Kokamangalam in the Archdiocese of Ernakulam and Angamaly, has been serving in the Vatican’s diplomatic wing for four decades. Mar Joseph Chenoth, who served as Vatican’s diplomat in Tanzania, Taiwan, and several other countries, was appointed as the Vatican’s ambassador to Japan in 2011. Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, President of KCBC and President of Syro-Malabar Church, said that the Archbishop of Kerala has kept him in his prayer.
