Cardinal  Peter  Turkson,  the  head  of  the  Dicastery  for  the  promotion  of  Integral  Human  Development , through  his  message  to  the  Catholic  Churches  conveyed  the  faithful  to  remember  the  hard  works  and  challenges  faced  by  the  seafarers  in  their  occupation.  The  Catholic  Churches   remembered  9th  July , 2017  as  a  special  day  and  considered  it  as  Sea  Sunday  to  pray  for  all  the sailors  and  their  families  who  have  sacrificed  their  joys  to  make  other’s  lives  better.

As  reported  by  the  Catholic  News  Agency,  His  Eminence  Cardinal  Peter  Turkson  emphasized  that,  “ In  spite  of  the  great  progress  in  technology,  which  has  improved  communication  between  seafarers  and  their  loved  ones,  the  long  months  away  from  the  family  are  still  a  huge  sacrifice  that  often  reflects  negatively  on  family  life.”  His  Lordship  also  reminded  the  faithful  about  the  sacrifices  that  a  sailor’s  family  has  to  undergo  because  of  his  occupation.  The  mothers  are  left  alone  and  are  forced  to  play  multiple  roles  in  the  family  in  the  absence  of  the  father.

His  Eminence  concluded  by  stressing  that  “ We  will  strengthen  our  network  with  the  objective  to  increase  co-operation  between  the  Apostleship  of  the  Sea  of  the  different  nations;  we  will  share  our  resources  and  best  practices  to  develop  specific  skills,  particularly  in  the  fishing  sector.”,  as reported  by  the  Catholic  News  Agency.
