New Delhi: Pope Francis has appointed Francisco Montesio Padillaille, the Archbishop of the Philippines, as the Nuncio of Guatemala. Monsignor John Jr., a native of Kanjirappally, has been invited to the Vatican Embassy in Guatemala, Central America. He is the first secretary. He was the temporary assignment of Nuncio.
Archbishop Padia has been acting as the Nuncioin charge of Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Oman, Qatar and Yemen and the Pope as a whole. He will remain in charge of all the Gulf countries until the appointment of a new Nuncio to the Gulf. Bishop Camilo Ballin, an Apostolic Vicar of North Arabian Vicariate, died last week.
