Fighting for the rights of the adivasis, Fr. Stan Swamy was arrested on treason charges. Strongly condemned. At the same time, there are concerns about the course of independent India. Catholic priests working for the poor have been persecuted for alleged proselytizing. Treason is easy for the rulers as it is a department that does not even get bail. It is surprising to remember that this is neither military rule nor dictatorship to intimidate and silence. India’s democracy is in danger.
In the past, Winston Churchill scoffed when he said that democracy would not succeed in India. But one thing is certain today. People who are ignorant of their own rights cannot even distinguish between democracy and dictatorship. Fr. Praying for Stan Swamy and his tribal brothers
