Kochi: Archbishop Mar Anthony Kariyil, Vicar of the Archdiocese of Angamaly-Ernakulam, said that we should dedicate our talents to activities that give more visibility to the Kingdom of God. He was inaugurating the centenary silver jubilee celebrations of the Archdiocese at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, Ernakulam. “It is an opportunity to thank God for the blessings God has given us over the past century and a half. In the context of the corona expansion, more attention should be paid to Covid’s defensive efforts to address this crisis than Jubilee’s action plans.” Mar Kariyil reminded us that all should work together to tackle this epidemic and bring relief to those in need, including the practical recommendations of the government.

The Archdiocese’s Centennial Silver Jubilee Celebrations began with a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Mary’s Basilica, officiated by Mar Anthony Kariyil. Before the Eucharistic celebrations, the Archbishop offered flowers and offered prayers at the tomb of the Blessed Fathers on the altar. Then the jubilee lamp was lit. Basilica Vicar Fr. Davis Madavana, Fr. Darwin Edassery, Fr. Davis Patannakkal, Fr. Jacob Koroth, Fr. Joseph Pallattil, Fr. Nelbin Mulavarikkal also co-celebrated the Divine Sacrifice.

After the Eucharistic celebration, Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry delivered a video message from Mount St. Thomas, the headquarters of the Syro-Malabar Church. The cardinal said the leadership of the archdiocese in the field of social welfare and health care was very special. He thanked God for the blessings of the Jubilee year and said that we should pray for the blessing of fulfilling our responsibilities in a timely manner. Thanksgiving services were held in all possible churches and institutions of the Archdiocese to mark the beginning of the Centenary Silver Jubilee. Special jubilee prayers were held in the homes.
