Holy Father Pope Francis sent a video message to Colombia on 4th September, 2017, two days ahead of his symbolic visit to the nation, reminding the faithful that the visit is purely intended to encourage the citizens to foster peace and dialogue in Colombia. The papal visit comes just one year after a peace accord was signed between the Colombia government and the country’s largest rebel group, Revolutionary Armed Force of Colombia in August 2016.
As reported by Vatican Radio, Holy Father Pope Francis remarked that “I feel honored to visit this land rich in history, culture, faith and men and women who have worked with determination and perseverance so that it may be a place where harmony and brotherhood reign.” Further His Holiness added, “Colombians have worked so that their land might be a place where the Gospel is known and loved, where to say brother and sister isn’t something strange, but a true treasure to defend and protect.”
His Holiness concluded the message voicing hope that this visit would be like a fraternal embrace for each one in Colombia and in which they would feel the comfort and tenderness of the Lord.
