In this encyclical Laudato Si, Holy Father Pope Francis expresses his concerns over the waste of water, a sustainable supply of fresh drinking water, the quality of the water available to poorer populations. His Holiness Pope Francis has already made it clear that the availability and care of the world’s water sources must be a global priority. Water-related diseases, the threat of the pollution of underground water supplies, the privatizing and commoditization of water, and the future consequences that the lack of water will have on food supply and international relations, were all highlighted by Holy Father Pope Francis.
Laudato Si’, however, states quite clearly what previous Popes, and the Holy See, have been saying for years. The Holy See states that the protection of water is a major factor in the development and sustainability of society.
22 March is World Water Day. “Nature for Water” was the theme for the 2018 celebration. His Holiness Pope Francis and the Holy See have often contributed to this theme.
