Not all the officials in Vatican are pleased with the decision to make St. Mother Teresa’s sari an intellectual property. The trademark registry of India made the blue bordered white sari worn by St.Mother Teresa, as an intellectual property recently. It is believed that the copyright move has annoyed many officials in Vatican.
As reported by ucanews.com, His Eminence Cardinal Jose Saraiva, a former-prefect of the Vatican based Congregation for the causes of Saints, asserted that “ Holy Mother Teresa of Calcutta is a universal symbol, beloved by believers and unbelievers and so it is absurd that taxes will now have to be paid for her sari since it is copyrighted.” Further, His Lordship added, “I have never heard anything like it and this also means that whoever uses the sari in films, books or other forms will have to pay a fee.”
His Eminence Cardinal Saraiva reminded that copyrighting the sari of St.Mother Teresa does not honor the saint’s memory. The three blue borders on the sari won by the Missionary of Charity nuns resemble poverty, chastity and obedience while the white color signifies purity.
