Eight roadside shrines in Mahim were removed peacefully with the help of the residents, who deliberately co-operated with the civic authorities.  The cross outside Victoria Church was removed after a prayer led by Fr. Gerald Fernandez, the parish priest of the church. Six temples and a mazaar were removed besides a cross, which were hindering pedestrian movement and obstructing traffic in the area.

As reported by the Times of India, Ramakant Biradar, Assistant Commissioner of G-North ward said, “The action was taken following the Bombay High Court order.” Further, he continued, “We had multiple meetings with trustees of these religious structures and impressed upon them the need to clear the roads and footpaths and they agreed to which eight shrines were peacefully removed.”

The historic old cross outside the Victoria Church, a temple at Macchimar Colony and the mazaar (tomb) of a Muslim saint were removed peacefully from the areas by BMC.
