Holy Spirit Church in Ghala, Muscat, celebrated the feast of St. Alphonsa, on 27th July, 2017, following 9 days of St. Alphonsa’ Novena. The day marked a memorable celebration with elegance, for all the faithful, participated in the feast. Children were dressed in traditional Christian women’s attire popularly known as “chatta and mundu”, signifying the childhood of St. Alphonsa. There were more than 2500 faithful assembled in the church for the feast which remarked the day as a divine one.
Programs began with the Holy Mass presiding 3 priests followed by offertory by around 50 children and the priest gave a speech on St. Alphonsa. After the Holy Mass, the church organized a possession with candles and the faithful got an opportunity to see and pray to the Thirusheshippu of St. Alphonsa. The program got ended up 11:30p.m with cake cutting and snehavirunnu.
The main feast of St. Alphonsa is celebrated on the death anniversary of the saint which falls on 28th July and it was on this day in 1946 that St. Alphonsa flew off on the wings of grace to be in the beatific presence of the Lord Almighty. Catholic churches all over the world celebrate her feast and receive divine grace and ineffable peace.
