Kochi: The Justice, Peace and Development Commission of the KCBC has called for the withdrawal of the order of the Social Justice Department to re-apply to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of the respective district if the children are to return to orphanages. The new regulations will affect the future of 20,000 children in orphanages across the state. The Commission has also approached the High Court demanding immediate withdrawal of the statutes.

Under the JJ Act, orphans and children who have been designated an orphanage as a permanent refuge cannot be allowed to suffer again through lengthy and rigorous procedures. The orphanages are mainly children of parents who live in a state of intoxication, with no means of living and divorce. The orphanages play a vital role in providing better learning, peaceful living, security and nutrition to such children, ”said KCBC Deputy Secretary. Dr. Varghese Vallikattu, Director of Care Homes and Special Schools of the JPD Commission, Fr. And Lijo Chittilappilly.
