Rehman Chishti, a British parliamentarian from Gillingham and Rainham, said he would participate in the London Marathon this year to raise funds for various programs to help Christians who have been persecuted. Chishti is participating in the London Marathon for the Pontifical NGO ‘Aid to the Church in Need’ (ACN). Chishti is also a special envoy of the British government’s religious freedom.
After spending several years in jail in Pakistan on fake blasphemy, he was released under pressure from the international community. Neville Kirk-Smith, national director of the ACN UK, said he was delighted to participate in the Chishti London Marathon for the organization. “Not only does it raise money for the oppressed Christians, but it also helps bring the issue to the attention of the world,” he added.
Through events such as Red Venezuela, the organization is raising funds to help Christians who are persecuted. This is not the first time that Chishti has come out for the oppressed Christians. Chishti resigned in November last year after he was promoted to the post of Conservative Party vice-chairman and British Prime Minister’s industrialist in Pakistan because of his lack of asylum.
