The Regensburg diocese has announced that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI had arrive in Regensburg, Germany to visit his ill brother, George Ratzinger. It was widely rumored that the Pope Emeritus would remain in Germany because of his poor health. The papal return to Rome is not an end to these speculations. Pope Benedict XVI had reached in Germany on 18 June.
It was the first trip to Italy since Pope Benedict XVI took office in 2013. Emeritus Pope, who spent two days with his brother, visited the graves of his parents and sister in Regensburg. On June 20, the Ratzinger Brothers offered a Holy Mass together. He also spent some time at Regensburg Pentling, where he was a professor at the University of Regensburg (now Pope Benedict’s 16th Institute).
The pope had recently found time to visit the Siegtsdorf cemetery, where his parents were buried, as well as his sister, who had served as a teacher from 1970-77. In Germany, the pope had no formal program. Ninety-three-year-old Emeritus was energetic in his visit to Germany, despite the age limitations, according to a Regensburg diocese.
