Priests in Bangladesh recognizes the significant roles of lay people in order to face the modern challenges that the church faces and thus are moving forward to strengthen the relationship and enliven the local church. The move was a part of the agenda at a seminar this week organized by the Bangladesh Diocesan Priests’ Fraternity (BDPF) at the Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Dhaka titled “Priestly Ministry and Relationship with Laity”
As reported by ucanews.com, His Excellency Bishop Gervaz Rozario of Rajshahi, a former BDPF president, asserted that “There is a gradual decline in moral values in the family and families are at mortal risk from various problems nowadays and so, the families need frequent pastoral visits and care.” Further, His Grace added, “People, especially the youth in cities are less interested in the church and so we must identify their needs, offer them what they want or the way they want and this way we can slowly win back their hearts.”
The BDPF was set up in the year 1985 to encourage and boost up the dialogues between the diocesan priests in the country and now it has 224 members.
