Due to schedule clashes with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Holy Father Pope Francis is unlikely to visit India this year. No dates were formally confirmed though His Holiness had announced last year that he would visit India and it is believed that the delay came about because the government in Delhi had been unable to provide a set of dates suitable, to Vatican.
As reported by Matters India, the Church officials from Vatican notified that “It takes a year to prepare for Pope’s visit and we don’t have enough time left and there was no clarity on the schedule.” Further, they added, “So it’s unlikely he will visit this year.” There are 28million Christians in India and the faithful are anticipating the papal visit with eagerness.
The Cardinals in India have urged the Indian Government to give the procedures a good flow so that they could arrange a good spot and facilities for Holy Father Pope Francis in India. Pope John Paul II was the last Pope to visit India, who made the journey twice.
