Belfast, Ireland: Over 20000 people assembled at the Belfast ground as part of a Pro-Life rally. The rally titled, ‘March For Their Lives’ was held as a sign of protest against the abortion legalizing law enforced upon the people of East Ireland. The rally was collectively organised by pro-life groups like, ‘Precious Life’, ‘The Life Institute’, ‘Youth For Life’ and ‘N I’. The protest groups held banners and placards that said, “No Abortion in our Name.”
The march to Stolmont Parliament Buildings, was attended by Irish leader and Archbishop of Armagh, Eamon Martin, former Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman Baroness Nuala O’Lonne and Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Arlene Foster. As a sign of agitation, the crowd observed a silence of 6 minutes representing the six countries of Ireland, as the rally reached the entrance of the Parliament building. In July, 328 votes were cast against sixty-five, repealing sections 58 and 59 of the Abortion of the Offenses against Persons Act, 1861.
“This silent rally was held to attain two main reasons,” said Sarah Crouchley, one of the chief coordinators of the event. She continued, “the people of Northern Ireland, have not asked for this amendment and the latter is contrary to public opinion.”
